O Holy Morn! is my first creation as a lyricist. To my personal dissatisfaction, the song does not rhyme like is so standard for hymns. 😊 All the same, after wordsmithing as a full-length novel writer for over ten years before walking into this project (creating an Easter version of O Holy Night), I decided on a poignant, while also flowing, recounting of the Easter story above all else: I love meaningful wording. These lyrics were the result. Enjoy!
O Holy Morn! Lyrics:
(1st verse: Holy Saturday going into Easter morning)
O holy night! For three days Jesus slumbered,
In stone cold tomb, anointed, laid and mourned.
After betrayal, abandonment and suffering,
He there took rest till all prophesy was fulfilled.
Then with stone rolled away and angels left announcing
With dawn he rose and conquered death in full.
Christ is the Lord! O praise his name forever!
His power and glory evermore proclaim.
His power and glory (O) evermore proclaim!
(2nd verse: Easter morning)
O holy morn! The Christ has truly arisen.
It is the day of sin and death’s defeat.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till he died and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope as we know he now is risen,
For today breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! O hear the angel voices!
“Alleluia! Alleluia! O Christ is now raised!
Alleluia! Alleluia! (O morn!) O morn divine!”
(3rd verse: A Christian’s Response/Easter Octave, Divine Mercy Sunday)
O risen Christ, my soul’s worth I cannot fathom,
That you would die amid torture and disgrace.
How can I respond to a love that is so holy,
Sacrificing, all-consuming and pure?
The King of kings values me a lowly sinner,
So much he would die and rise for me alone.
Behold our King! Before him lowly bend!
Alleluia! Alleluia! O praise his great mercy!
O praise his mercy! (O) Praise his great mercy!

More “O Holy” Songs
Since creating O Holy Morn! the Lord has gifted me with a few more ideas for lyrics, a couple of which have made it into musical notion as well. I am delighted to share these! I have continued using the “O Holy Night” tune so far, and hopefully they are still easy to follow. Meaningful lyrics again were a high priority.
The first song is about interceding for a deeper experience of the Catholic Mass and the second is about bringing all our intentions with us to Mass. Both pieces would make an excellent prelude or perhaps an offertory (preparatory) hymn.
Please freely use them and give them away, just do not sell them! They are a gift to anyone who wants to use them.
“O Holy” Mass Intentions Lyrics:
O dear child, God has called you to this moment
To be right here in this place and in this time,
Sitting in solemn silence, awaiting the great Mystery,
Giving your intentions, your heart and hurt combined.
Family, friends, the Church, the strayed, the poor,
Your joys not forgotten, vocations and holy souls:
Bring it all and more to the altar.
God loves you, and he wills to bless all you share.
So offer him everything, and believe in all the good he’ll do.
Bring everything. Lay it on this altar
To be lifted to the Father with the sacrifice renewed!
Your burdens surrendered for their weight to be removed.
So in your thoughts, place yourself on this altar,
Your whole life emptied on it for blessing and renewal.
O give the Lord everything, and see the greatness he will do!
“O Holy” Intercession Song Lyrics:
O dear Lord, in this Mass may we (well) meet you
With thanksgiving, petition, love and praise!
May we pray this like our last Mass. May we pray it like our first one.
May we pray this like our only and our best.
Guardian angels, patron saints come aid us!
Angels of this church, this diocese and this town!
Saints in general and Mary, mother blessed.
O holy souls and blessed Trinity! O come to our aid!
Merciful Father and Jesus and Holy Spirit come!
